City officials and the business community have talked about it; now it’s time to make some safety improvements to the College Hill area of Cedar Falls.
The need became more apparent after a pre-dawn shooting New Year’s Day in which two Waterloo teens were hit by gunfire, along with a nearby vehicle and a window on the door of the Octopus bar on College Street.
Mayor Jim Brown (who will be Jeff Stein’s guest on KXEL Live & Local this afternoon at 3:15), along with members of the city council and the police department, met with some “Hill” business owners yesterday(Wed), and authorities say they plan on adding about 10 new surveillance cameras along College Street, some nearby streets and parking lots. They’d also like to add some street lights and brighten some of the existing lights in the area.
Cedar Falls police will meet next Tuesday to start work on the camera aspect of the plan and how much the whole project will cost. It’ll then be up to the city council to make a final decision on implementation.
