The Beatles – The Ballad of John & Yoko

An interesting single and one of the few Beatles songs that only have John and Paul on it. George was on holiday (vacation) and Ringo was filming The Magic Christian with Peter Sellers.

The song was written by John and was a bit of a story of the events during which John wanting to marry Yoko, was having trouble doing so, everywhere they went.

This session also marked the return of legendary Beatles engineer, Geoff Emerick (who just passed away in the latter part of 2018). Geoff had quit during sessions of ‘The White Album’ due to the tensions between each of the Beatles.

The single’s B-Side was George Harrison’s “Old Brown Shoe”. Both of the songs were unavailable on any studio album and only released as singles and on Beatles compilations, ‘Hey Jude’, ‘1967-1970′, ’20 Greatest Hits’, and ‘Past Masters’.

“The Ballad of John & Yoko” peaked at #8 on the Hot 100.
