The Cedar Falls City Council approved a new parking ordinance last(Mon) night that creates 36 parking spots and adds parking fees to downtown lots.
The new parking map and recommended updates to the ordinance come from a parking study done last year by the Wantman Group.
The recommendations also impact traffic lanes, new parking spots, and time limits for street parking. The new spots are primarily along Second and State Streets.
The council did not set the parking lot fees last night; those will be adopted at a later date.
The new ordinance will also allow more overnight parking on downtown side streets and will extend enforcement times by three hours…from 9 am to 8 pm, Monday through Saturday. Right now, it’s 9 to 5, Monday thru Friday.
Pay stations and mobile apps will be added at some point for the paid parking lots.
