Joe Tex – I Gotcha

The first single in a long time that became a hit, Joe Tex’s “I Gotcha”, from the 1971 album of the same name, was originally written to go to King Floyd to record. He didn’t so Joe recorded it himself in the late 60s. He never released that version but re-recorded it in late 1971 and released it as the B-side to “A Mother’s Prayer”. DJ’s across the country flipped it over and started playing the B-side more and “I Gotcha” raced up the charts to peak at #2 for two weeks on the Hot 100!
