Waterloo Council Resumes Work Today on City Budget

‘Still no agreement on a budget for the Waterloo City Council, in spite of spending two hours last(Mon) night reviewing five council members’ proposals and then hearing from about 18 citizens, who offered opinions as to what’s important and what’s not.

Lisa Skubal of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber says businesses and industry look at “The Big Picture,” before deciding whether to come to Waterloo.

Resident Betty Wubbena says Waterloo Police and Fire-Rescue saved her life,so they shouldn't be cut. Regular city spending critic Dave Dreyer says counting on the state to keep its backfill promise to the cities is a lost cause.

Ivan Belchek says Waterloo’s reputation as a high-tax city is not as widespread, nor as important, as some may think.

The council is meeting again today(Tues) at noon to try and come up with a budget.
