Tempers Flare at Waterloo Council Meeting, as Local History Buff Criticizes Dept. Head
Mayor Hart Heard Enough; Orders Chas. Pearson to Leave Meeting

It got very heated at last(Mon) night’s Waterloo City Council meeting, between resident Charles Pearson and Mayor Quentin Hart.

Tempers flared when Pearson…who has worked with the city’s Historic Preservation Commission on a survey of the “Smokey Row” neighborhood, which he now says is just a small part of the larger "Unity" neighborhood…criticized Community Planning & Development Director Noel Anderson several times, after accusing the department head of misleading him about the purpose of a proposed resolution regarding a survey of the smaller historical area.

Hart told Pearson to stop referring to Anderson by name and to cease his increasingly personal attack, but Pearson continued and the Mayor ordered him to leave the meeting, which he did.

In the end, the council decided to hold a July9th work session on the topic.
