• “Out of the mouths of babes” is the saying, but at least as they get older it isn’t as embarrassing as the grocery store when they were 4. I had a conversation with one of my children the other day who said they have a hard time just relaxing. “I sit down to watch TV and I feel like I should be doing something”. My good intentioned advice of “You have to allow yourself some time to get refreshed” was met with. “This is coming from you?”. Bam. Right between the eyes on that one. I admit it. I’m not good at it. I think a lot of parents aren’t. I don't know when the last time was I actually sat for an entire movie. I watch TV standing up, a lot. But somehow instead of just taking care of things around the house I managed to program a kid that “relax” somehow equaled “lazy”. True, the whole feet up and shut down can go too far, like anything else, but now my job is to reprogram myself. Will see how this goes. Baby steps from a couple innings of baseball and maybe by Christmas I will have worked up to an entire movie without jumping up to do some laundry. Wish me luck.

  • Working on new music is not an easy thing. Doing a 3 song EP or releasing a couple songs for download isn't bad. But to gear up for a full length CD, grab a Snickers, cause you aren't going anywhere for awhile. The average full length project is about 13 tracks. It's not uncommon to submit 30-35 song ideas to a producer, the one who will help shape the song, and have them sort through and dump all the other songs to just end up with 13 they want to work with. It isn't they are jerks, ok some are, but they just want the best ones and a variety of them. Not all fast, slow, tear jerkers, whatever. I've loved some songs that have never made it to a project, and I've not been that excited about stuff that went down. It's all perspective. Just some handy information for the next time you scroll through a new release and start choosing your downloads.

  • I am, however, really good at random thoughts.
Since I have never had a blog, I’m not totally sure how to do them. I am, however, really good at random thoughts. We call it “mental ping pong” at our house.
