Celebrating Kiki Dee’s 72nd birthday!

Kiki Dee – I’ve Got The Music In Me

Kiki Dee is the first British female to sign with Motown’s Tamla label. She had been in the music biz for most of the 60s in the UK. Minor hits there and BBC radio play… However, it wasn’t until 1973 when she formed The Kiki Dee Band and had a Top 20 hit with “I’ve Got The Music In Me”, a rocker that peaked at # 12 on the U.S. Hot 100.

It was that song that got Elton John to hire her as a back-up singer on many of his recordings and then in 1976, she replaced Dusty Springfield, who was ill at the time, and recorded the #1 duet, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”.
