Here’s To Beer: A Weekly Beer Blog Part 79!

There’s a beer brewed from bananas in Africa called Raha. It made from fermenting mashed bananas. YUM!

Peace Tree Bewing Co. Cold Brew Coffee Stout

More often than not, I’ll love coffee beers. They are usually stouts or porters, quite dark and have incredible aromas, as you would expect from coffee.

I can’t say enough good things about what Peace Tree Brewing Co. in Knoxville, IA. I have had a few of their brews and they have blown me away. Not only extremely drinkable, but flavorful and unique. They do set themselves apart from other breweries in that way.

The Cold Brew Coffee Stout is smooth and tasty. The nose is roasted malt, some caramel and coffee. It pours black with a tan head. It’s a nice thicker pour since it’s a stout and it’s very smooth. Coffee, chocolate, malt and a light char on the tongue and only a light alcohol presence on the back of the tongue (6.5 % ABV). I think it’s best nice and cold, but as it warms a bit, the malt and coffee become more of the strongest flavors. Cold brewing is different than heat brewing which most beer and coffee for that matter is done. Since there’s no heat, it needs more time sitting with all of the ingredients. Cold steeped coffee is added at the end of the process to make the already dark stout, darker and coffee bitter. However, there’s a nice sweetness in this that balances everything perfectly. It really is incredible. I highly suggest this and pretty much everything from Peace Tree.
