Carole King – Jazzman

From Carole King’s 1974 album, ‘Wrap Around Joy’, this song made it all the way to the #2 spot on the Hot 100!

Carole King wrote the music but it was former Steely Dan member, David Palmer, who wrote the lyrics, based on the respect for legendary jazz sax player, Curtis Amy, music director for Ray Charles for many years.

While the song was in reference to Amy, it was the great Tom Scott playing the long sax solos!

“Jazzman” was nominated for a Grammy for┬áBest Female Pop Vocal performance, but lost to “I Honestly Love You” by Olivia Newton-John.
