Witness Cathedral Ale

Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, IA has released a Witbier style ale with a local brewery, Bent River Brewing. It not a secret that Catholic monks have been brewing beers since anyone can remember (and historically noted), and Sacred Heart is really living up to a long tradition.

Witness Belgion Wittbeir is one of the beers that the church and a few parishioners have originally created as a “homebrew” but then had Bent River get involved to make their recipe into larger batches for sharing and even selling, with proceeds helping several local charities.

The beer is a definitive witbier that would make any Belgian style brewer happy. Traditional with a spice kick of a little extra coriander, it sets itself apart from other in that way. If you like Blue Moon, you’d enjoy this as it’s very close to the same flavor, only with a little more of the coriander and malt than Blue Moon. Smooth, fruity and an easy drinker, it comes in at a light 4.8 ABV.
