Here’s To Beer: A Weekly Beer Blog Part 92!

Everyone knows it, but few are prepared to admit it. Craft beer causes a considerable amount of flatulence. Even though the ‘air biscuits’ can be quite boisterous, they are usually very harmless. Well, USUALLY….

Firestone Walker 2019 Parabola

This is one of the “big boy” beers. A Russian Imperial Stout with an ABV of 13%.

It pours black and a little thicker than a regular stout. Dark tan head with a boozy nose. Bourbon, smoke, oak is what I got on the nose.

I had this ice cold and had it in the fridge since December. This is one of those that will continue to age in the bottle.

Boozy bourbon flavor up front with molasses strong throughout. Some fig and smokey char on the back. It pretty sweet. More than I like. I’ve touted Firestone Walker a lot as they impress me with everything I’ve had from them, but this falls short for me. Maybe because it probably mellows and smooths out as it ages… I give it the benefit of the doubt that it is better a year or more older.

There are MANY local breweries that are offering online or phone orders with curbside pickup. This is a great idea for keeping the local businesses going through this stay-at-home time. Remember to support the locals by ordering food, or beer, or macrame, whatever it is the business offers. This is a win for everyone, especially your community.

Here are some breweries that are still brewing and offering the pickup service.

Our taprooms are open limited hours for carryout and curbside pickup. Place your order online and we will have your favorite beer or alternative beverage ready for you. We are only filling new growlers at this time. If you do not want to come into the taproom to pick up the order give the taproom a call and we will bring your order out to your car in the parking lot. Check out our taproom location hours below. We also have new merchandise on our online store that you can pick-up or we can ship to you. We are offering free shipping on orders $45 and over this weekend only.

Curbside pickup Wed & Thurs 2-6, Fri & Sat 12-4. Call ahead at least 20-30 minutes to place your order. Home delivery in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Hiawatha

Delivery, curbside, and in house sales to-go

We have closed down our kitchen and are no longer taking food orders over the phone for curbside pickup. I have been filling 16oz cans for curbside pickup by “appointment”—people are welcome to reach out by email or Facebook and I can fill up some cans. With a handful of new beers in queue, I am working on getting enough cans to package them and start taking bona fide orders online.

Lots of options: order online www.pivoblepta.com or call 563.562.1053 or email info@pivoblepta.com, or stop in to the taproom but keep more than 6’away from other people. Hours are 2-7 Thursday-Sunday (closed on Easter)

You can find our menus on our website: www.biggrovebrewery.com

We have two taprooms (Waterloo + Cedar Falls) and both locations are offering orders online, phone and pick up options.
