Billy Joel – The Entertainer

The only single to come from Billy Joel’s 1974 album, ‘Streetlife Serenade’, “The Entertainer” was a comment by Joel about the fleeting idolatry of a pop star, mentioning that while they have a hit song, everyone loves them, but when they fall off the charts, people forget about them quickly.

It also mentions “The Piano Man” which is an excellent song at 5:38, but for Top 40 radio, it was chopped to just over 3 minutes.

“The Entertainer” went Top 40, pealing at #34 on the Hot 100!
