Here’s To Beer: A Weekly Beer Blog Part 94!

In the 1600s, midwives created super-strong beer to ease the pain of labor!

The bottle alone was one reason I had to buy it. Real corked bottle with that cage thing keeping it in place. While maybe it’s just marketing, making it look like an important release, it worked on me.

I found that it’s part of a retired line from Sierra Nevada. I’ve become a fan of saison style brews, and I really enjoy the Belgian yeast strain. I prefer a more funky brett yeast, but this is a nice compromise.

It pours pale yellow with very little head. The nose is sweet, citrus, orange peel. Maybe a bit of lemon grass… Taste follows suit. Sweet and malty with bitter orange peel, slightly dry on the finish and boozy, which is odd because it’s only 7% ABV. It has a slightly thicker mouthfeel with just a slight carbonation, like warm honey. Very smooth and decadent.

Overall, it was enjoyable as a saison. I’ve had better, for sure, but this is a nice lower end Belgian style craft beer.

DON’T FORGET!

Many breweries are still brewing and offer curbside pickup and some offer delivery. Check with them to see what you can do to help the local economy and local businesses.
