It’s Linda Ronstadt’s 74th birthday!!

Linda Ronstadt – Get Closer

Released in 1982, it’s the title track to the album, ‘Get Closer’.

The song is notable for having an odd time signature of 7/4 time and in pop music, it’s rare.

Written by original Starland Vocal Band member, Jon Carrol, ‘Get Closer” was a rocker with some of Linda’s best vocal recordings. She can sing sweet, like and angel, or rockin’ like on this one!

Also, EVERYONE played or sang on this album! For instance, Lindsay Buckingham, James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, J.D. Souther, Andrew Gold and many other famous people in the music business!

The song led the album off and set the tone for what was to come. The song peaked at #29 on the Hot 100. A great record in my opinion, however, it was recorded to really just satisfy Ronstadt’s record contract, as she was ready to move on to record old standards, which ended up being the very successful triple album of Nelson Riddle tunes.

And remember the Close-Up toothpaste commercial campaign with this as it’s call-out? (“Want love? Get Close-Up”).
