Black Oak Arkansas – Jim Dandy

First recorded by LaVern Baker in 1956, it was named in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and was ranked #352 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
In 1973, it was covered by southern rock band, Black Oak Arkansas and it made it to the Top 40! Lead singer, Jim Mangrum, was already using Jim Dandy as his stage name so to cover it made perfect sense.
It peaked at #25 in 1973, and was the first single from the album, ‘High On The Hog’.
