Here’s To Beer: A Weekly Beer Blog Part 100!

By Tim Martin Aug 7, 2020 | 1:54 PM

Coined in the early 1900s, the word alcoholiday means leisure time spent drinking. Sounds perfect to me!

Well, here it is! The 100th Here’s To Beer, beer blog! I had no idea I’d get this far and have so many readers! I have even met more of you beer drinkers (and hell raisers) than I ever thought I could, so thank you all and CHEERS!

I was working in the garage on a rather hot day… The garage door was open, there was a slight breeze, but nearly enough. I was feeling myself melt into a pool of sweat. I opened the back door to create a cross-breeze, which helped a little, but was still on the humid side.

What I was doing was going through my tackle box and trying to reorganize and clean it up (it smelled like stink bait thereby, making my car smell like stink bait) and I even bought a new tackle box to transfer my things into…

I then realized the new tackle box wasn’t going to work for my needs. I took everything back out of it and washed the old one out with soap and water. All over, inside and out, I washed thoroughly to be sure the odor of hot stink bait and remnants of dead worms I found, would be completely gone.

As I was reorganizing and putting things back into the original box, I was sweating more than Nixon’s upper lip and needed a nice, cold beverage.

Now, I’m aware that water would have been the best thing and healthier for me as I was putting out more water than Niagra Falls but there were two problems:

  1. The fridge in the garage had no water in it
  2. The fridge in the garage only has beer in it

So I grabbed one of the craft beers I haven’t tried yet, Hoppen-Daz Mango Milkshake from Bur Oak Brewing Co.out of Columbia, Missouri.

The IPA is smooth, hoppy, with a nice malt flavor that blends well with the mango flavor that is very nice. Probably brewed with real mangos in the mash or mango puree. The malt and mango tame the sharp hop bitter, but it’s still very floral and the mouthfeel and finish is on the slightly dry side.

Ice cold, this is a winner!! It really hit the spot and I WILL be buying more of this!
