Gov. Kim Reynolds will let bars, breweries and taverns in four counties reopen, less than three weeks after she order them closed after a surge in coronavirus cases. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is estimating that 550,000 acres of Iowa corn—more than half a million acres—will not be harvested this fall due to damage caused by the Aug. 10 wind storm that swept across the state. That estimate places the value of the lost corn crop, based on the yield and price anticipated before the storm, at around $344 million. Corn prices have gone up due to the crop losses so farmers who are able to pull a crop out of the field will likely get more money for the corn they do harvest. Many farmers also have crop insurance to cover some of the loss and other federal programs may help. The soybean crop was largely unaffected.
Collins Aerospace has received a $103 million dollar contract from the U.S. Army. The contract is to acquire avionics support services and incidental materials for the UH-60M Black Hawk mission design series and variant helicopters. The Department of Defense says Collins was the only bid they received on the project, due to its specialized nature. The estimated completion date for the project is in 2025.
