Steve Miller Band – Wide River

From 1993 (the same year of the massive flooding of the Mississippi river) came The Steve Miller Band’s fifteenth studio album, ‘Wide River’. Of course, he had no idea about the timing of the released and what was to happen, all down the Mississippi river valley…. Just good timing! I was personally touched by the song and the flood as I was working as an intern at Power 98.9 on the morning show and was sent out to help sandbag along the river, and do a radio stunt of literally fishing on 3rd Street in downtown Davenport! The river breeched the levy and past River Drive and 2nd street!

The lead single from the album was the title track and got airplay on Top 40 radio. It was among other songs like “Anniversary” – Tony Toni tone,”7″ – Prince, “Ordinary World” – Duran Duran, “Runaway Train – Soul Asylum, “I Feel You” – Depeche Mode and others, where the Steve Miller sound felt out of place.

However, it did pretty well and reached the Hot 100, where it peaked at #64 and it became his last single to hit the Hot 100.
