Sammy Hagar – Give To Live

In 1985, Sammy Hagar was asked by the Van Halen brothers to join the band after the departure of David Lee Roth. While Sammy was on board with the idea, he had a contract with Geffen records and Van Halen was signed to Warner Bros. To get out from under Geffen, Sammy had to record and release one more album with Geffen Records, before he could officially sign on to be a member of VH. Sammy wrote and recorded the 1987 release ‘I Never Said Goodbye’ (also widely known just as ‘Sammy Hagar’) with the help of Edward Van Halen on bass. Eddie has admitted to having added a “very small guitar part” on “Eagles Fly” but left uncredited. The album was released while Sammy was already a member of Van Halen, but came out on Geffen Records, fulfilling his contractual obligation with them. It became his highest charting album, peaking at #14 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

“Eagles Fly” hit the Hot 100 and peaked at #82 but the song, “Give A Little” was a staple on MTV and got plenty of radio play and topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart!
