Celebrating #79 – Happy Birthday, Paul Simon!

Paul Simon – Slip Slidin’ Away

Here comes Rhymin’ Simon! Paul Simon was about to release a Greatest Hits album in 1977 but, as you know, the record company likes there to be at least two new songs, so fans who already have everything released prior to that, would still have to buy it to get the new songs.

“Slip Slidin’ Away” was recorded and originally going to be on the 1975 album, ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’, but he left it off. Good call.

Billboard magazine loved the song, calling it, “sensitive. thoughtful. melancholic and evocative”. That it is. Backing vocals provided by The Oak Ridge Boys.

The song became one of Paul’s biggest hits, peaking at #5 on the Hot 100!
