Recorded in Nashville while the band stayed at Curly Putman Jr.’s farm in Lebanon, TN, Paul McCartney and Wings have stated that the time in Tennessee on that farm was one of the most fun and relaxing times they’d had, while recording.
The lyrics eluded to Nixon resigning because of the Watergate Scandal and movie legend, Oliver Hardy’s investment in nearby Del Mar Fairgrounds race track with co-owner, Bing Crosby. However, those lyrics are based upon rumor and hearsay about the deal going bad and Ollie skipping out, though that has never been proven.
Very big hit for Paul and Wings, taking it to #3 on the Hot 100 as only a single with out a studio album backing it with extra sales.
